I REALLY NEED HELP

SUGARBABE started this conversation

My husband and I live in Sulphur Springs, Texas. We both need to be in wheelchairs and we are, but we have no ramp to get in and out of our house and the chairs are to heavy to lift out, we live on his disability and my SS and don't have any other income and can't afford to put a ramp on or even fix our home. Our home needs several repairs the bathrooms needs a floor and a new tub installed, the livingroom needs the ceiling fixed along with the floor repaired, our roof needs replaced it rains inside more than outside. We can't afford a loan we barely get by on the money we get, last year we went without heat because we could not afford the bills and it was a choice between heat or food we took food. Please can you tell me if there is someone out there that can help or a grant I can get to fix these things.

I noticed your post and copied a reply I had sent to someone else.

I am not sure where you are located but the Weatheriziation program in your state will help and so will the SHIP Program(Affordable Housing) USDA Rural Development in your state also has very low interest loans and probably other programs to help you. I think you need to be the one living in the home also for all of these grants.

Below in the info sent to someone else that may help you. Good Luck.

For the people needing weatherization...air conditioning, windows, hot water tanks, weatherstripping, etc. your town or county weatherization program will doo all this for you. Depending on when you apply there may be a waiting list but elderly, disabled and anyone with a child under 12  take priority.  This is paid for by  federal government grants to your state.

For home repairs you can apply at your local SHIP program (Affordable Housing). They will make repairs to your home which can include roofing, etc.  This is a loan that does not have to be paid back unless you move and sell the home within 10 years.

LIHEAP will help with your electric bill once a year. They also are located in your town or county.

If you have prescriptions that you get on a regular basis and need help in paying for them most of the drug companys have programs that are low or no cost to you. All you have to do is apply. Once approved and they receive your prescription, they will send your medication out to you every 3 months. Two that I know of for sure that have this program are Glaxo Smith Kline. Their program is called Bridges to access. The other is Astra Zenica. You can also apply for a state prescription card which will give you discounts.

http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ocs/liheap/brochure/brochure.html  This link is to ask for help with your electric bill, but go to the MAIN site for info.  If you are at a poverty income level, they should be able to help you or direct you to the right department.  GOOD LUCK!

Hello,

My name is Janet and I am in almost the same boat as you are.  I have gotten some e-mails telling me to check my local Hud office and the local United Way.  United way has lists of local resources in your area.  I'm checking into them now.

 Good luck and God bless.

 Hugs Janet

I need help in repairing my mothers home.  She left it to me and my siblings and they signed it over to me.  I now need to repair it for my daughter and her two kids.  I am willing to sign my deeds over for a $10,000-$20,000 loan.  I can pay back $1,000 a month if I were given this loan.  My mothers house is a three bedroom, one full bath with a kitchen, livingroom and a den that she had added some years ago.  My mother has since passed about 7 years ago and she asked that we do not sell or rent this home to anyone.  She did ask us to keep this house for her grands and great grands.  I intend to honor her wishes but I need some financial assistance.  I am willing to meet with you or anyone of your staff to discuss this in more detail.  If there is a grant or loan I can get to repair this house, please let me know as soon as possible.  My daughter and her kids really need a place to stay ASAP.  Thanks for allowing me this space to post my comments.
